Commercial Locksmith · Los Angeles

Commercial hardware, master key systems, and doors that have to stay legal

Commercial work has a constraint residential work doesn't: the door has to satisfy fire and life-safety code as well as lock. Getting that wrong is a failed inspection at best and a liability at worst.

Getting your price

Give us a door count and the hardware type on the phone and you'll get a real total for the whole job.

No service-call fee. The quote covers the completed job.
The figure you agree to on the phone is the figure on the invoice.
If the job turns out to be genuinely different from what you described, we stop and re-quote before doing any work — never after.
The after-hours surcharge is quoted on the call, not added at the door.
We take cards. A locksmith who insists on cash only is telling you something.

The egress rule that catches everyone out

A door people exit through has to open from the inside without a key, without special knowledge, and in a single motion — even when it's locked from the outside. That's why panic bars and storeroom-function locks exist.

We see inherited setups that break this constantly: a thumbturn deadbolt added above a panic bar, a keyed cylinder on the inside of an exit door, a chained back door. If you've got one, we'll tell you, because you would rather hear it from us than from a fire marshal.

Master key systems, done so they're still usable in three years

A master key system gives each person a key that opens only what they should open, while a master key opens everything. The technical part is straightforward. The part that fails is documentation.

We issue a written key schedule — which key opens which doors, how many were cut, and who holds them. Without it, a master system degrades into a drawer of unlabeled keys within two years and the whole thing has to be redone. With it, you can revoke one person's access by rekeying one cylinder instead of the building.

Why commercial work is quoted differently

Grade 1 commercial cylinders cost more than residential hardware, they take longer to service, and storefront doors are usually aluminum with mortise cylinders rather than simple bored holes. That's the honest reason commercial numbers sit above residential ones — not because businesses can pay more.

A storefront door cycles hundreds of times a day. Residential-grade hardware on it will fail inside a year, and buying it twice costs more than buying Grade 1 once. We'll tell you which grade your doors actually need.

Commercial Locksmith — straight answers

Can you rekey our whole office in one visit?

Usually yes, and it is dramatically cheaper per door than doing them piecemeal, because most of the cost is the trip rather than the cylinder. Give us a door count on the phone and you'll get a real total for the whole job before we schedule.

An employee left and still has keys. What now?

Rekey every cylinder their key opened. If you have a properly documented master system, that may be a handful of doors rather than all of them — which is exactly the argument for having one.

Do you handle access control and fobs?

We install and service electric strikes, mag locks, keypads and fob readers, and we make sure whatever goes in still satisfies egress requirements. For large multi-building deployments we'll tell you honestly if a specialist integrator is the better call.

Can you work after hours so we don't close?

Yes, and that's common for storefronts and restaurants. After-hours work carries a surcharge and you'll be told the number when we schedule, not when we invoice.

Do you invoice, or is it payment on the day?

For one-off work, payment on completion. For ongoing commercial accounts we can set up proper invoicing — ask when you call.
